Morality for Beautiful Girls

Morality for beautiful girls is the third novel in Alexander McCall Smith's No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series. It's a charming, soothing read, very similar to the novels in the Sunday Philosophy Club series which have been reviewed elsewhere on this blog. Although they tend to be placed with the crime novels, these are really not crime novels in any true sense, what crime there is is on a very small-scale, in fact they have much in common with Parker Pyne Investigates.

There's nothing earthmoving about this novel, it won't change the way you view life, it won't make you sit up in astonishment at the writing, or the narrative complexity - it's your favourite old jumper in front of the fire with a cup of cocoa, and we all need jumpers and cocoa sometimes.
